VIDEO DESCRIPTION
Published description
What if theatre were not a building, a company, or a finished play—but a method for making relations visible?
Founded in Beijing in 2015 by Zhang Shaohua and He Fa, P4 Theater is an independent experimental theatre and public-practice project. P4 does not begin from a permanent venue or a fixed repertory. It organizes live situations through recruitment, rehearsal, performance, documentation, reflection, and regeneration.
This English introduction traces P4’s working method across a decade of projects: Present, Photosynthesis, Psychology, Permanent; Shadow Counterpoint; Cocoon; Howlers on the Rooftop; Prosecution of the Love Middlemen; Human Surrender; The Last Rehearsal; and Shoot Self with You.
The film explains how P4 moves beyond the fourth wall, how the camera participates in the encounter, and how photographs, recordings, and archives become material for the next event.
